Improved Security in Zamfara Allows Displaced Residents Home

The Zamfara State Police Command has announced a significant improvement in the security situation across various parts of the state, leading to the return of displaced residents to their communities. According to police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar, the progress is attributed to sustained security operations in collaboration with the state government and judiciary, which ensures the prompt prosecution of numerous suspected bandits.

The police have adopted strategies that involve engaging community leaders and deploying mobile police personnel to previously abandoned areas, encouraging displaced residents to return and rebuild their lives. For instance, in the Zebri community of Maradu Local Government Area, nearly 10,000 people who fled due to insecurity have begun to return.

The deployment of an anti-kidnap unit and support from armored personnel carriers has contributed to this positive development. Furthermore, there has been a notable reduction in kidnapping cases, particularly along major highways in the state, with only 10 recorded incidents monthly prior to May 2023, which have since become rare.
