Nationwide Blackout Looms in Nigeria as Power Stations Face Shutdown Amid Strike

Nigeria faces a potential nationwide blackout as power stations receive notices to shut down due to a strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN). The Association of Power Generating Companies (APGC) raised concerns about the disruption in power generation, warning of a possible blackout starting on September 29.

The strike, set to begin on the same day, follows the alleged dismissal of 800 workers at Dangote Refinery, a claim the refinery denies. The shutdown of thermal power stations due to the strike could severely impact the country's electricity supply, with hydroelectric dams alone unable to sustain the national grid.
