Retired Police Officers Protest for Pension Reform at Aso Rock

Retired police officers staged a protest at Aso Rock, Abuja, on Monday, expressing their grievances against the inclusion of police personnel in the contributory pension scheme. The protest was organized by the Retired Police Officers Forum Nigeria, led by national coordinator Raphael Irowainu.

The demonstrators described the pension scheme as fraudulent, illegal, inhuman, and obnoxious. They urged President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the Police Exit Bill, which was passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and transmitted to the President on March 16, 2026.

The bill aims to exempt police personnel from the contributory pension scheme, which the protesters argue is akin to slavery and leads to untimely deaths. Irowainu emphasized the urgent need for presidential action, lamenting the adverse effects of the current pension scheme on retired police personnel.
