Retired Police Officers Protest Pension Scheme Inclusion

Retired police officers launched a protest at the Presidential Villa on Monday, demanding the removal of their inclusion in the contributory pension scheme, which they describe as fraudulent, inhumane, and akin to slavery. The protest was coordinated by Prof.

CSP Raphael Irowainu (Retd), who emphasized the negative impact of the scheme on their welfare. The officers are urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the police exit bill, which was passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and transmitted to the President on March 16, 2026.

The retired officers argue that unlike other security agencies, such as the armed forces and intelligence services, which are exempt from this scheme, police personnel should also be removed from it. This protest is not the first of its kind, as retired police officers had previously demonstrated in July 2025, demanding improved pension conditions.
