Retired Police Officers to Protest at Aso Rock on March 21

Retired police officers, represented by the Kaduna State Chapter of the Retired Police Officers Union, are organizing a peaceful protest at Aso Rock on March 21, 2026. This action is in response to the failure of the President to sign a bill concerning their exit from the Nigeria Police Force contributory pension scheme, which was transmitted on February 23, 2026.

The deadline for the President to act on the bill is March 23, 2026. The decision to protest was announced by Mannir M.

Lawal, the Chairman of the Kaduna State Chapter, and Danlami Maigamo, a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, following a monthly meeting held on March 18, 2026. The union emphasizes the dire financial conditions faced by retirees, who struggle to meet basic needs, including education for their children and access to medical care.

Chris Effiong, the national coordinator, is mobilizing members across 35 states to participate in the demonstration.
