Retired Police Officers Protest at Presidential Villa

On a protest day, retired police officers blocked the gate of the Presidential Villa in Abuja to express their discontent with the ongoing inclusion of police personnel in the contributory pension scheme. The demonstrators, coordinated by Prof. CSP Raphael Irowainu (Retd), called on President Bola Tinubu to assent to the police exit bill, which was passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and transmitted to the President on March 16, 2026.

The retired officers described the pension scheme as fraudulent, inhumane, and akin to slavery, arguing that it adversely affects their welfare. They highlighted that other security agencies, including the military and intelligence services, are exempt from this scheme.

This protest is not the first of its kind; a similar demonstration occurred in July 2025, where retired officers demanded the removal of the scheme due to poor pension conditions.
