Retired Police Officers Protest Pension Issues at Villa

Retired police officers staged a protest at the Presidential Villa, urging President Bola Tinubu to address longstanding pension and gratuity concerns. The protest followed a meeting with Inspector General Tunji Disu, who pledged to advocate for their issues.

The officers demand the removal of the contributory pension scheme, which they describe as fraudulent and inhumane. They argue that the scheme adversely affects their welfare and liken it to slavery, leading to untimely deaths.

The protest, coordinated by Professor CSP Raphael Irowainu, aims to compel the president to sign a bill that would allow police personnel to exit the contributory pension scheme, which was passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and transmitted to the president on March 16, 2026. The retired officers also called for the establishment of a special fund to support their welfare, highlighting the need for pension reform and better conditions for retired personnel.
