Opposition Leaders Consider Leaving ADC Amid Crisis

Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Kano State Governor, are contemplating abandoning the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid a deepening leadership crisis. This crisis follows the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) decision to recognize a faction within the party's leadership, based on a court appeal ruling regarding ongoing litigation about the party's internal structure.

Sources indicate that this leadership dispute could significantly hinder the ADC's ability to participate effectively in the 2027 elections. The uncertainty has prompted high-level consultations among these opposition leaders, who are expected to meet in Abuja during the Easter period to discuss potential political strategies.

They are also considering alternative political platforms, including the People's Party and the New Democrat Congress, as they assess the stability of the ADC's structure and its representation in the National Assembly.
