Bayo Onanuga Critiques Peter Obi's Leadership Legacy

Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesman, accused former Anambra governor Peter Obi of neglecting to acknowledge the achievements of his predecessors and successors. In a commentary titled “Deconstructing Peter Obi (1),” Onanuga claimed that Obi has consistently criticized those who held office before and after him.

He pointed out a “dangerous trend” in public discourse where different standards are applied to Obi compared to other political figures. Onanuga stated that Obi has never complimented any of his predecessors or successors and alleged that during his eight years in office, he “demarketed” former governors Chinwoke Mbadinuju and Chris Ngige.

Furthermore, Onanuga criticized Obi’s media supporters, including Valentine Obienyem, for promoting a favorable narrative about Obi. These comments arise amid disputes regarding Obi's administration in Anambra, particularly concerning claims about the state’s debts, savings, and projects, with the Anambra State Government challenging Obi’s assertions about the state’s finances upon his departure in 2014.
