Olumide Akpata Defects to ADC, Cites Peter Obi's Influence

Olumide Akpata, the former governorship candidate for the Labour Party in Edo State, officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on a Tuesday. During a ceremony at the ADC secretariat in Benin, Akpata credited his decision to Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

He received his party card from the ADC state chairman, Kennedi Odion, and acknowledged the warm reception he received from the party. Akpata expressed his belief in the ADC's vision for a new Nigeria and committed to contributing positively to the party's goals.

Peter Obi, present at the event, reiterated his commitment to building a new Nigeria and criticized the current electoral processes, particularly the lack of real-time transmission of election results, which he deemed a significant mistake in the 2023 elections. Other notable figures present included former Edo State Governor John Odigi Oyegun and former Senator Oserheimen Osunbor, who expressed optimism about the ADC's prospects in the 2027 elections.
