Obi and Kwankwaso Seek Joint Ticket for 2027 Elections

Peter Obi and Kwankwaso are actively working to secure a joint presidential ticket under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections. They are lobbying northern leaders to support a proposed power rotation deal, which aims to strengthen their chances and consolidate northern support for a southern presidency.

Obi's proposal includes serving a single term, which is seen as a strategy to shift support in anticipation of the party's primaries. Kwankwaso's camp has intensified engagement with traditional rulers and political stakeholders in northern Nigeria, urging them to support a southern presidency after the completion of an eight-year tenure by the north.

The move is framed as a fair argument, considering the previous tenures. Sources indicate that efforts are ongoing to secure commitments from northern leaders to accept Obi's proposal.

The two politicians previously inaugurated the Obi-Kwankwaso movement on April 20 to drive this joint ticket initiative ahead of the primaries.
