Peter Obi Praises Nigeria-Ethiopia Prisoner Swap Efforts

Peter Obi, a member of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, praised the Nigerian government for successfully concluding a prisoner exchange agreement with Ethiopia, describing it as a refreshing humanitarian intervention. He commended the efforts of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, and the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, for their roles in the negotiations.

However, Obi expressed sadness over reports that at least four Nigerians died while in Ethiopian custody, extending condolences to their families. He highlighted the ongoing negotiations and the need to address the economic challenges driving Nigerian youth to seek opportunities abroad, particularly in light of the risks associated with emigration.

Obi called for proper management of the prison transfer process to ensure the rehabilitation and reintegration of returned citizens into society. He urged the government to create economic opportunities and improve the educational system to curb mass emigration.
