Peter Obi Addresses Assassination Attempt in Edo State

Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate, stated that lawlessness is not new to him following a reported assassination attempt in Edo State. The incident occurred at the residence of John Odigi Oyegun, the former national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where gunfire damaged several vehicles.

Obi expressed gratitude for the support from Nigerians at home and abroad, particularly towards Oyegun's family. He acknowledged the political tensions in the state, which were exacerbated by a formal declaration by Olumid Akpata of the ADC.

Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Obi's former campaign spokesman, reported that individuals allegedly associated with a faction of the ADC were involved in the attack. Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, dismissed claims of a targeted attack as false and malicious, suggesting the incident was related to internal disputes within the ADC.

Obi emphasized the need for civic engagement and leadership to combat the growing insecurity in Nigeria.
