Bashir Ahmad Predicts Peter Obi's Defection from NDC

Bashir Ahmad, who served as a media aide to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has suggested that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), will likely defect to another political party ahead of the 2031 presidential election. Ahmad stated on X that Obi would not remain in a party where he cannot fulfill his ambitions, drawing a parallel to Obi's previous departure from the Labour Party (LP).

Ahmad wrote, “Just like what he did to the Labour Party, Peter Obi will definitely do the same to the NDC.” Peter Obi, who previously contested the 2023 presidential election on the LP platform, left the LP in December 2025 due to a leadership crisis and subsequently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, he later switched to the NDC, where he became the party's presidential candidate, with Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.
