NUPENG Strike Causes Petrol Prices to Soar to N1,700/L Nationwide

Petrol prices in Nigeria have surged to N1,700 per liter as the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) initiated a nationwide strike, leading to the shutdown of Dangote Refinery and major fuel depots. This industrial action has crippled the downstream sector, causing filling stations to close, commuters to be stranded, and transport costs to soar.

The strike, which began on September 8, 2025, has left many private and commercial vehicle operators stranded, with fears of prolonged fuel scarcity. The strike has also led to a spike in black market petrol prices, exacerbating the situation further across the country.
