Philip Shaibu Retains Record at 2026 Okpekpe Race

On Saturday, Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, successfully retained his record in the 2026 Okpekpe International 10km Road Race, finishing with a time of 1 hour 18 minutes. He competed alongside Adam Oshiomhole, the former Governor of Edo State and current Senator representing Edo North, who finished slightly ahead in 1 hour 17 minutes 57 seconds.

The race commenced at 10:05 AM Nigerian time, following the elite athletes who began at 9:00 AM. Shaibu's participation underscores his commitment to sports development and promoting healthy living among public officials.

He praised the organization of the Okpekpe Road Race, which he described as a significant event for Nigeria's international sports competitiveness and its economic benefits for the Edo North senatorial district. The race attracted elite long-distance runners, with Ethiopian Lema Alemu Mamo emerging as the champion in the men's category, clocking 29 minutes 39 seconds.
