ASUU Protests Niger Govt's Takeover of University Campus

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and students at the Federal University of Technology Minna protested against the Niger State Government's move to take over the Bosso Campus. The protest was led by ASUU chairperson Prof.

Luqman Kunle Oyewobi, who criticized the government's lack of transparency and due process in revoking the university's land rights. The protest highlighted that the campus, acquired in 1983, is a federal asset and any attempt by the state government to annex it without proper legal procedures constitutes a grave violation of federal law and institutional autonomy.

Oyewobi emphasized that the takeover would directly affect thousands of students and staff, disrupting academic activities and essential services. The union called for urgent intervention from the federal government and the National Universities Commission (NUC) to reaffirm federal ownership of the campus.

Student union vice president Mfon Joseph Jonah expressed concerns about the potential disruption to student life and academic activities.
