Tension Over Bosso Campus Ownership at FUT Minna

Tension has arisen between the Niger State government and the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUT Minna) regarding the ownership of the Bosso Campus. Governor Moham Umar Bago's administration has issued a letter demanding the university vacate the campus, claiming that the 30-year lease agreement has expired.

This has caused significant anxiety among students and staff, particularly as it coincides with ongoing academic assessments. The state government asserts that the campus was temporarily ceded to the university in 1985 and has since fallen into disrepair.

In contrast, the university management maintains that the campus is federally owned and remains an active academic center. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at FUT Minna has condemned the state’s actions, insisting on federal ownership and warning against disruptions to teaching and research.

A three-week ultimatum has been issued to the state government to suspend its takeover plans, with potential mass protests threatened if the situation is not resolved.
