Niger Governor Threatens FUT Minna Campus Occupancy

Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago threatened to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy for the Federal University of Technology Minna's Bosso campus during a meeting held in Abuja on March 5, 2026. The meeting involved representatives from the university's governing council and the Niger State government.

Prof. Shola Solomon, president of the university's alumni association, disclosed that the governor's threats included cutting off electricity supply to the campus. The vice chancellor presented evidence of payments made for the campus, contradicting the governor's claims that it had been fallow for 15 years.

The state government has attempted to assert that the lease agreement for the land has expired, aiming to use the campus for medical students from Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai. This has sparked protests from the university community, with the Academic Staff Union of Universities condemning the government's actions as unlawful and a land grab.

The union urged the federal government to intervene and protect the university's autonomy.
