Midnight Fires in Anambra Destroy Shops, Prompt Response

On February 24, 2026, a fire broke out at Nwafor Plaza located off Obi Okoli Avenue, Unizik Junction, Okpuno Road, Awka, at approximately 11:05 PM. The Anambra State Fire Service, led by Chukwudi Chiketa, received an emergency call at 11:08 PM and promptly deployed firefighters to the scene.

The fire, attributed to a power surge, destroyed no fewer than four shops and damaged surrounding buildings. Firefighters managed to control the situation and withdrew safely by 11:59 PM.

A second fire occurred shortly after, at Igligi Lane off Godwil Junction, Okpuno, at 12:08 AM on February 25, 2026. Firefighters arrived at 12:08 AM and successfully contained the blaze, which affected two shops.

The cause of this fire remains under investigation. The Anambra State Fire Service urged business owners to conduct regular safety checks and report any fire incidents promptly to prevent future occurrences.
