Plateau Assembly Bans Yearly Textbook Purchases to Aid Parents

The Plateau State Assembly has banned the yearly purchase of textbooks in schools to alleviate financial burdens on parents. The decision followed a motion by Hon.

Joseph Bukar and Hon. Mathew Kwarpo Sylvanus, aiming to reduce the hardship faced by families.

The assembly emphasized the need for a sustainable textbook policy to make education more affordable. Parents are now allowed to source textbooks from outside school, and a textbook cycle has been adopted to remain in use for at least four academic sessions.

The assembly also condemned the wasteful trend of yearly graduation ceremonies in nursery and primary schools, promoting responsible spending in the education sector.
