Top Southeast Governor Bans Nursery, JSS 3 Graduation Parties, Gives Reason

Governor Hope Uzodimma of a Southeastern state has banned graduation parties for nursery and Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 students, citing financial burden on parents. The directive, announced by Commissioner Bernard Ikegwuoha, aims to reduce unnecessary expenses and refocus on academic achievement.

Primary 6 and Senior Secondary School (SSS) 3 students are allowed to hold graduation ceremonies in line with the Nigerian education system. The government also ordered schools to stop yearly textbook changes, ensuring approved books are used for a minimum of four years to ease financial strain on families and promote teaching consistency.

The new policy is effective immediately in both public and private primary and secondary schools in the state. Similarly, Adamawa State has also banned Maker Day celebrations for Senior Secondary Certificate Examination candidates.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri emphasized the need to maintain positive changes in the education sector and uphold moral values. Residents have expressed dismay over certain indecent behaviors during graduation celebrations, prompting these measures.
