Plateau Assembly Calls for Security Action in Barkin Ladi

The Plateau State House of Assembly has demanded immediate emergency security intervention in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area following recent violent attacks on communities. The Assembly urged the full occupation of the Mobile Police Barracks in Gashish and called for urgent infrastructure repairs and humanitarian assistance for affected communities.

This resolution was prompted by a Notice of Motion sponsored by Hon. Dickson Chollom and seconded by Hon. Abel Nansak, adopted during a plenary session on Wednesday. The Assembly also requested Governor Caleb Mutfwang to engage with President Bola Tinubu and Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Ridwan Disu to facilitate the necessary intervention.

Additionally, the Assembly began consideration of a Bill to amend the 1999 Constitution to establish State Police Services, which was moved by Majority Leader Hon. Joseph Gokum and seconded by Hon. Matthew Sylvanus Kwarpo. Speaker Naanlong Daniel assured that the Bill would be expedited to enhance security coordination at state and community levels.
