FRSC Advocates Cycling Amid Rising Fuel Costs in Plateau

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau State, led by Dr. Adelaja Ogungbemi, has called for residents to embrace cycling as a sustainable and affordable mode of transport in response to rising fuel costs and traffic congestion.

This appeal was made during the 2026 World Bicycle Day event, organized in collaboration with cycling clubs and civil society organizations, featuring a bicycle rally and awareness campaign. Ogungbemi highlighted that cycling offers practical solutions to urban transport challenges, promoting healthier lifestyles and reducing air pollution.

He urged the establishment of dedicated cycling lanes and improved road signage to enhance cyclist safety. Dr.

Jame Amidu, chairman of the Plateau Cycling Association, led a 10-kilometer ride, advocating for cycling as a daily transport option rather than merely a recreational activity. The FRSC plans to intensify public awareness campaigns on road sharing and cyclist rights, emphasizing the need for inclusive cycling infrastructure in the state's transport master plan.
