Plateau State Eases Curfew Amid Ongoing Tensions

The Plateau State government announced a relaxation of the curfew imposed on Jos North Local Government Area, citing a return to peace following recent tensions. The revised curfew arrangements will take effect on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, allowing residents to move freely from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. However, a dusk-to-dawn curfew from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM will remain in force. Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang directed security agencies to intensify enforcement of the curfew to maintain peace and protect residents. The decision comes in the wake of violence in Angwan Rukuba that left several people dead, including Abel Joro, a 200-level undergraduate at the University of Jos, who sustained serious injuries and later passed away in the intensive care unit of Jos University Teaching Hospital. Cleric Ezekiel Dachomo described the loss as heartbreaking, highlighting the emotional impact on the victims' families and the community, which has heightened fears among students and staff at the university.
