Deadly Clash in Plateau: 12 Dead, Including Soldiers

In a violent confrontation in Wase Kanam, Plateau State, security operatives faced off against bandits, leading to the deaths of 12 individuals, including two soldiers (a captain and a colonel) and eight members of a local vigilante group. The clash occurred during a clearance operation aimed at combating rising banditry and kidnapping in the area.

Sources indicate that around 20 bandits were killed during the encounter. The incident is described as one of the deadliest assaults on security personnel in recent times.

Local residents, including Murtala Isa, reported that the bandits had taken positions before the arrival of the soldiers, resulting in overwhelming gunfire. Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the violence and urged residents to remain calm while efforts to address security challenges are intensified.

The bandits are believed to operate from the vast Madam Forest area, which spans across multiple states, complicating military efforts to disrupt their activities.
