Terrorists Ambush Patrol Team, Kill 20 in Plateau Attack

On Friday, around 4 PM, a combined patrol team of military personnel and local vigilantes was ambushed by heavily armed terrorists in the Garga area of Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau State. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least 20 security personnel, including two senior military officers and eight vigilante members.

During the exchange of fire, terrorists were reportedly neutralized. Following the attack, the Kyaram community was stormed, leading to the looting of properties worth millions of naira and the rustling of a large number of cattle.

This incident is part of a prolonged wave of insecurity affecting border communities linked to Plateau, Taraba, and Bauchi states over the past three to four years. A joint statement from Barr Garba Aliyu, the chairman, and Shehu Kanam, the secretary, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and condemned the ongoing terrorist activities.

They called for urgent intervention from local and federal governments to deploy additional military forces and establish a permanent security outpost in the affected areas.
