Coalition Calls for DSS Deployment Amid Plateau Killings

The Coalition of Indigenous Youth Associations in Plateau State has demanded the deployment of the Department of State Services (DSS) to address escalating violence in the region. At a joint press conference on Wednesday, coalition chairman Dalyop Mwantiri reported that at least 50 people have been killed in the past week due to fresh attacks in the Riyom and Bassa local government areas, resulting in thousands being displaced.

Mwantiri described the violence as part of a prolonged humanitarian crisis affecting indigenous communities in Plateau State. He emphasized that victims deserve justice and called for stronger security measures.

The coalition noted that previous DSS operations in the area had significantly reduced attacks, providing hope for peace. However, they expressed concern over allegations of misconduct by DSS personnel, which they believe could undermine security efforts.

The coalition also highlighted a disturbing pattern of violence linked to the influx of Fulani militants alongside terrorist groups, with recent brutal attacks reported in nearby villages.
