Tinubu Orders 5,000 CCTV Cameras for Plateau Security

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu ordered the installation of 5,000 surveillance cameras in Plateau State after a violent attack in Angwan Rukuba that resulted in 27 fatalities. During a town hall meeting with traditional leaders, Tinubu emphasized the urgent need for enhanced security measures.

He directed the Minister of Communications, Dr. Bosun Tijani, to implement the camera network immediately, which will utilize artificial intelligence for real-time monitoring and faster response to security threats. Tinubu acknowledged that no financial compensation could replace the lives lost but promised government support for the victims' families.

He also instructed security chiefs, including the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff, to ensure the arrest of those responsible for the attack. A committee will be established to assess the losses suffered by victims and recommend compensation.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to address recurring violence in Plateau State, often linked to ethnic tensions.
