Mob Sets Suspected Phone Thief Ablaze in Plateau State

On Tuesday afternoon, a suspected phone thief was set ablaze by a mob in the Apata Community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State. Eyewitness Mathew Paul recounted that the suspect allegedly snatched a phone at gunpoint and fired a shot into the air to scare people.

As the suspect struggled with the gun, a mob quickly gathered, chased him down, and set him on fire. Security operatives arrived at the scene but found the suspect already dead.

The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, commented on the incident but was unable to provide further details as the suspect's phone was switched off at the time of reporting. This incident has drawn attention to the growing case of mob violence in Plateau State, where suspects are often lynched instead of being handed over to law enforcement.

Residents recalled a similar incident last year in the Kabong Community of the Jos North Local Government Area.
