Plateau Tertiary Institutions Staff Union Declares Strike

The Plateau Tertiary Institutions Staff Union has announced an indefinite strike set to commence at midnight on Monday. This decision arises from the government's failure to meet several demands, including salary increments of 25-35% and the issuance of employment letters, as stipulated in the Domestic Polytechnic Act.

The union, led by Comrade Yohanna Igyem, confirmed that negotiations with the government have been ongoing since last year, with a series of ultimatums issued, including a 14-day ultimatum on January 9, 2026, and a subsequent seven-day ultimatum on March 6, 2026. Meetings scheduled for April 16 and later April 21, 2026, were postponed indefinitely without a new date.

The union's patience has been tested, and they have stated that failure to address outstanding demands by April 27, 2026, will leave them no choice but to proceed with the strike without further notice.
