Plateau State Governor Launches State Police Advisory Committee

On Tuesday, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State inaugurated a 14-member advisory committee on state police, aimed at strengthening the state's security architecture. The committee, disclosed by the governor's Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, is part of broader efforts to enhance Nigeria's internal security framework following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's call for police reform.

The committee will conduct a comprehensive review of the concept of state policing within Nigeria's federal structure and provide recommendations to contribute to national policing deliberations. Members include security experts and practitioners, with Dig Habila Joshak serving as chairman and Dr Juli Sanda as secretary.

The committee's mandate includes examining the constitutional and legal framework governing policing in Nigeria, assessing security challenges in Plateau State, and conducting feasibility studies to establish a viable structure for a Plateau State Police Service.
