Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu Over N1470 Fuel Price

On 14 September 2026, Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Candidate, condemned President Bola Tinubu's administration for increasing the fuel pump price to N1470. In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku accused the government of opaque management of Federation Account deductions and oil revenues.

He described the price hike as unconscionable, especially after the government had removed fuel subsidies, which were supposed to free resources for essential services. Atiku pointed out that the high fuel prices directly impact transportation, food, and household budgets.

He referenced the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) records, highlighting that in June 2025, gross revenue was ₦4.232 trillion, but only ₦1.818 trillion was distributed. He called for a detailed reconciliation of revenues from 2023 to date, demanding transparency regarding various funds and oil revenues.

Atiku stated that serious allegations require thorough investigation and independent auditing.
