Pochettino Frustrated by Richards' Injury Ahead of World Cup

Mauricio Pochettino, the current coach of Crystal Palace, expressed frustration regarding Chris Richards' ankle injury, which has put his participation in the US Men's National Team's World Cup squad in doubt. Richards, who has 36 caps for the US, was expected to be a first-choice defender alongside captain Tim Ream.

He sustained the ankle injury last month and will not play in the friendly against Germany in Chicago. Pochettino noted that FIFA rules allow for squad replacements up to 24 hours before the tournament begins.

The US will open their World Cup campaign against Paraguay next Friday, with group opponents including Australia and Turkey. Pochettino indicated that the timeline for Richards' recovery is unclear, suggesting that he may not be fit enough to be included in the squad.

He also mentioned that Richards' potential participation in the UEFA Conference League final was uncertain, which has contributed to his frustration over the lack of clarity regarding Richards' injury status.
