Police Block Court-Ordered Release of Abuja Businesswoman

Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, has accused the Federal Capital Territory Police Command of blocking the court-ordered release of businesswoman Traci Nicola Ohiri. Ohiri was arrested and arraigned following allegations against David Umahi, the Minister of Works, regarding a financial dispute involving N250 million.

Sowore criticized the police for allegedly frustrating a magistrate court's ruling in favor of Ohiri, claiming that police officers prevented court staff from signing her release warrant. He described the situation as an abuse of power and an escalation of a civil dispute into a criminal matter.

The events unfolded at the Wuse 6 Magistrate Court in Abuja, where Sowore confronted police officials. Human rights activists condemned the arrest, asserting that it was unlawful.

Ohiri's case has drawn significant attention, highlighting concerns over police conduct and the treatment of civil disputes in Nigeria.
