Sowore Confronts Umahi Over Woman's Unlawful Detention

On Wednesday, human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore confronted Nigeria's Minister of Works, David Umahi, inside the Nigeria Police Force command in Abuja. This confrontation was related to the alleged unlawful arrest and detention of Traci Nither Nicola Ohiri, a married woman who reportedly owes Umahi N250 million stemming from a civil dispute that has persisted for 12 years.

Sowore disclosed that the police facilitated an environment for Umahi to harass and intimidate Ohiri, who had been transported to Abuja after her alleged arrest in Lagos for cyberbullying. Sowore insisted that the matter should be treated as a civil dispute rather than a criminal issue, criticizing Umahi for using law enforcement to settle personal scores.

Despite Sowore's intervention, the police refused to grant bail to Ohiri, and Umahi left the premises angrily. Sowore emphasized that public officials should not employ state resources to address private grievances.
