Sowore Criticizes Police Over Arrest of Businesswoman Ohiri

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), condemned the Nigeria Police Force and Minister of Works David Umahi for the alleged unlawful arrest and detention of businesswoman Traci Nicola Ohiri. Ohiri had accused Umahi of owing her N250 million and making sexual advances towards her seven years ago.

She was reportedly arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command and brought to the Wuse 6 Magistrate Court in Abuja. Sowore criticized the police for turning a civil dispute into a criminal matter and claimed that the arrest was an abuse of power.

He stated that the police facilitated a meeting between Ohiri and Umahi, during which she was unlawfully detained. Sowore also mentioned that Umahi left angrily after refusing to grant bail for Ohiri, who was later reported to be remanded in prison.
