Delta Police Arrest 11 for Sexual Assaults at Festival

The Delta State Police Command has arrested 11 additional suspects in connection with sexual assaults that occurred during a cultural festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area. This brings the total number of arrests to 15 as police investigate allegations of harassment and molestation of women during the event.

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi condemned the assaults, describing them as a reflection of misplaced national priorities and calling for relevant authorities to investigate these acts. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) also condemned the incidents, with NBA President Afam Osigwe labeling the events as disgraceful and a collapse of societal conscience.

The ADC's Bolaji Abdullahi expressed concern over the safety of women in the community. Business and Professional Women Nigeria called for an immediate investigation into the violent assaults, emphasizing the need for accountability and empowerment for women, who constitute 50% of Nigeria's population.
