Ogun Police Arrest Tony Ameachi for N2.5m Fraud Scheme

The Ogun State Police Command arrested 45-year-old Tony Ameachi for an alleged N2.5 million fraud related to a deep freezer transaction. The investigation commenced on April 4, 2026, after a dealer, who responded to an online advertisement on April 1, transferred N2.5 million to a bank account in the name of Abdulmoruf Abdulahi for the purchase of deep freezers, which were never delivered.

Following the report, detectives traced Ameachi to the Ojo area of Lagos State, where he was arrested on September 22, 2026. During the arrest, police recovered 25 Automated Teller Machine cards, 25 mobile phones, and 16 Subscriber Identity Module cards.

Further investigation revealed that Ameachi allegedly used utility bills and newly registered SIM cards from associates to open various bank accounts for fraudulent activities. The recovered items are being examined to determine their relevance to the case and identify other potential victims.

The case file and exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation.
