Bauchi Police Arrest 47 Armed Individuals During Elections

The Bauchi State Police Command announced the arrest of over 47 armed individuals around polling units in Disina during the state House of Assembly bye-election. These individuals claimed to be members of state-owned security outfits.

The state government has demanded the immediate release of three other persons arrested by security operatives during the bye-elections held last Saturday. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the actions of the suspects, which undermined the electoral process, and directed their transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for investigation and prosecution.

The police reiterated their commitment to a peaceful electoral process and warned that any disruption would be dealt with decisively. They also reminded the public that only recognized security agencies are permitted to provide election security, as stated in a previous warning regarding the participation of quasi-security agencies and private security guards.
