Father and Son Arrested with Firearms in Bayelsa

On July 6, 2023, the Bayelsa State Police Command arrested a 68-year-old man, Tibi Fridai, and his 36-year-old son, Oyabrad Tibi, for allegedly unlawfully possessing four single-barrel guns. The suspects were intercepted during a routine stop and search operation conducted by officers from the Anti-Vice Unit at approximately 10:30 AM along the Igbogen Tombia Expressway in Yenagoa.

The father and son were traveling in a commercial tricycle from Abua in River State when their vehicle was stopped. During the search, police discovered the firearms concealed inside a sack covered with sticks.

The Bayelsa State Police Command, led by CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, stated that this operation marks a significant breakthrough in combating illegal firearms and violent crime in the state. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yenagoa for further investigation to ascertain the source of the firearms and identify any individuals connected to the offense.
