Five Arrested for Selling Stolen Electric Cables in Katsina

On June 9, 2026, the Katsina State Police Command arrested five suspects involved in a criminal conspiracy related to the theft and unlawful disposal of public property in Bugaj Village, Jibia Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as Hassan Ibrahim (30), Lawal Ibrahim (31), and Abubakar Sani (31), were apprehended following credible intelligence regarding their illegal possession and disposal of public utilities.

The operation, conducted by the Central Police Station in Katsina, led to the transfer of three principal suspects to the state headquarters for further investigation. Investigations revealed that six months prior, electric cables in Bugaj Village had collapsed due to weather conditions, and the community authorities had recovered the cables pending official action.

The suspects unlawfully removed portions of these cables and sold them without authorization, accumulating approximately N300,000 over five different occasions. Additionally, ten iron doors were recovered from the suspects, who confessed to their involvement in the offenses.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend seven fleeing accomplices, and the suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
