Four Arrested for Murder Over Land Fraud in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command reported the murder of 56-year-old Kelechi Madu in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area, shortly after he was reported missing by his wife on August 18, 2026. Madu had left home on the evening of August 17 and did not return.

Following the report, police, local vigilante members, and Madu's family began searching for him. Later that evening, Madu's wife returned to the police station to inform them that her husband had been found dead in a nearby bush at Umuobi, Awkuzu.

The police discovered Madu's body with a deep axe cut to his head. In the investigation, 32-year-old Ifeanyi Nwankwo, a friend of the deceased, was arrested and allegedly confessed to planning the murder.

It was revealed that Nwankwo had fraudulently obtained money from Madu under the pretense of helping him acquire land and subsequently hired two others to kill him to cover up the fraudulent transaction.
