Police Arrest Suspect, Recover 100 Cattle in Kogi Attack

The Kogi State Police Command announced a significant operational success with the arrest of a key suspect involved in a bandit attack on Ayegunle Community, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, on June 1, 2026. Following a distress call reporting sporadic gunfire, CP Naziru Kankarofi deployed tactical operations involving personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, DSS, Kogi State Vigilante Service, and Civilian Joint Task Force.

Preliminary investigations identified the attack's mastermind as a notorious bandit kingpin known as Batijo, who ordered the invasion of Ayegunle Community. The criminals aimed to abduct residents but failed in their objective.

The attack resulted in the abduction of three individuals, including Ojo Abiodun and Bunmi Sundai, while Chief Jame Obayomi was killed during the incident. The police operation led to the recovery of approximately 100 rustled cattle and the arrest of Ibrahim, a member of Batijo's criminal network.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other identified suspects involved in the attack.
