Man Arrested for Attacking Motorcyclist in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command arrested 45-year-old Bello Abubakar for allegedly attempting to kill 22-year-old commercial motorcyclist Bello Umar and stealing his motorcycle on August 23, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m. The incident occurred in Shanga Local Government Area, where Umar was found with a serious head injury at Tungar Dariya Bush, near Makera Village.

He was evacuated to Koko General Hospital for treatment and later discharged. Preliminary investigations revealed that Abubakar hired Umar's motorcycle from Koko Town, attacked him with a hoe, and covered his body with leaves, believing him to be dead, before fleeing with the motorcycle to Yauri Town.

Following sustained investigations, police traced and recovered the stolen motorcycle, leading to Abubakar's arrest. The suspect is cooperating with investigators, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia condemned the act and pledged to prosecute those targeting commercial motorcycle operators.
