Mother and Daughter Arrested for N18m Romance Scam

The Nigeria Police Force's National Cybercrime Centre arrested Urowh Diana, 39, and her daughter Rokibat Oluwasheyi Imoru, 22, for their alleged involvement in a romance scam that defrauded a victim based in Malta of N18 million. Preliminary investigations revealed that Emmanuel Amanfo, identified as the stepfather of Rokibat, allegedly conspired with them by opening multiple bank accounts to conduct fraudulent transactions.

The scam involved direct deposits into several Nigerian bank accounts owned by Rokibat Imoru, with subsequent transfers to an Ecobank account belonging to Urowh Diana. The police's forensic analysis of digital footprints led to their arrest.

The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to apprehend Emmanuel Amanfo, who is described as the husband of Urowh Diana. The suspects will face charges in court upon the conclusion of the probe.

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combat cybercrime and protect the country's cyberspace.
