Police Arrest Suspected ISWAP Member in Kwara

On April 1, 2023, at 8:00 AM, police in Kwara arrested a 20-year-old individual identified as Mallami Abubakar, suspected of being a newly recruited member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The arrest occurred during a routine patrol in the Nanu community, part of the Kaiama Local Government Area.

This operation was a collaborative effort involving the police, the National Forest Guard, and local vigilante members aimed at enhancing security and surveillance in the forested border communities within the state. Following his arrest, Abubakar was taken into custody for further investigation, where he allegedly confessed to having contacts with a friend named Babi Babana from Borgu Local Government Area in Niger State, who invited him to join ISWAP.

The police are continuing their investigation to verify his claims and track other members of the criminal network, assuring residents of ongoing collaboration with local security agencies and vigilante groups to eliminate criminal elements in the state.
