Oyo Police Arrest Suspect After Gunfight with Robbers

On a Monday, the Oyo State Police Command successfully foiled a highway robbery along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway, resulting in the arrest of a suspect identified as Dere Yahaya, aged 32. The incident occurred in Egbeda Village when a joint patrol team comprising police and local vigilantes encountered armed robbers attempting to hijack a tanker loaded with diesel, driven by Surajudeen Sulaiman.

A gunfight ensued, during which the robbers attempted to flee into the bush. Following the confrontation, Yahaya was apprehended with a bullet wound.

The operation was praised by Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, who commended the bravery and swift response of the local security partners involved. This incident highlights ongoing security efforts in the area, which has seen a rise in highway robberies.

The police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
