Kwara Police Arrest Suspect Linked to ISWAP Activities

On April 1, 2026, the Kwara State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old male suspect, Mallami Abubakar, during a coordinated patrol operation involving multiple security outfits in the Kaiama Local Government Area. The operation, which included members from the National Forest Guard and the Kaiama Vigilant Group, intercepted Abubakar as part of routine patrols.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he had allegedly contacted a friend identified only as Babi from Babana Village in Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State, on March 30, 2026, suggesting a deeper connection to a criminal network operating in the North Central region. The police statement indicated that Abubakar was invited to travel to Farinsuni via Baruten Local Government Area with the intent to join a group believed to be affiliated with ISWAP/Lakurawa.

The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, reaffirmed the command's commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state and urged residents to report any suspicious activities.
