Akwa Ibom Police Capture Armed Robber with Weapons

On September 14, 2026, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested a suspected armed robber in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area following a distress alert about a violent attack in Ikot Ekweng village. Police operatives, responding to an emergency call at approximately 5am, encountered Inspector Henry, who reported being attacked by the suspect, Ini Mfon, with a machete while attempting to steal his tricycle, resulting in an injury to his right hand.

The police traced Mfon to his residence, where they arrested him and recovered two locally made pistols and two machetes. DSP Timfon John stated that detectives are investigating the origins of the weapons and any potential links to other criminal activities.

CP Baba Mohammed Azare praised the operatives for their swift action and reaffirmed the command's commitment to combating violent crime and illegal firearms through intelligence-led policing and aggressive patrols.
